model to provide coaching:
Goals: Identify the goals
What would you like to achieve?
Is it realistic?
Can you measure it?
How would you recognise that you were performing better?
Is it challenging?
On a scale of one to ten where are you now?
What is the timescale you could achieve it in?
Are short term goals needed to reach the end goal?
Reality: Assess current position
What is happening now?
What have you done about it so far?
How do you handle..?
Is there a particular issue?
How often? Who? etc
Options: Think of choices
- What options do you have?
- What else could you do?
- What is causing you concern?
- If you stepped back...?
- Is there only one way?
- Can only you get that information?
- What are the pay offs/costs of these options?
Will: Gain commitment to do it
What is your preferred option?
Do you want to try several or focus on one?
Are you willing to try that?
Will that help you achieve your goal?
What obstacles could you face?
How will you overcome them?
What support do you need?
When would you want to start?
As skilled coach works on the continuum below.

A successful coach does the following:
- Acts as a helper or mentor
- Serves as a problem solver
