How do I solve problems?

Below is a simple process with some important steps. At each of the stages you may use some of the problem solving tools available.

The key to solving problems is to find the correct problem to fix plus ensuring that all stake holders share that view. Time spent on the REFINE stage will pay back later.

Similarly, data collection is critical, you must all be working with FACTS not opinions. The aim here is to stop people jumping to conclusions. Recording the facts where everyone can see them is also important. I vital and often overlooked set of facts can be found by looking at where the problem is not happening.

The final stage is about good management, you need to be sure that the solution identified is actually the one that gets implemented, especially if a third party is doing the implementation.
